Well, these are nothing but overhead tanks that have caught the fancy of NRI Punjabis. You can find them on almost every rooftop of the swanky homes in the Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur districts of Punjab.
Ask any mason in Mehatpur – the place where these tanks are made- and he will tell you how fiercely people in the four districts compete with each other to showcase their artistic ingenuity through the tanks. The bigger and fancier the tank, the greater the pride. “Every house wants to prove a point or two with its newly-acquired wealth and status,” says one of the masons. . It has become somewhat a fashion to have a house with a landmark.
