University of Roorkee-my favourite institute

“Scientists study the world as it is; engineers create the world that has never been.”
Karman’s quote shows that engineering is a profession greater than science or, for that matter, any other profession. Further, the word ingenious, meaning “skilled”. An engineer is thus implied to be a clever, practical, and designer.
Engineering is the profession greater than science or any other profession. An Engineer is implied to be clever practical designer. With this in mind “Thomson College of Civil Engineering” was established in year 1847 by British and it was rechristened as University of Roorkee in year 1949. On 21 September 2001 Govt of India declared it as the nation’s seventh Indian Institute of Technology. IIT Roorkee has academic departments in the areas of Engineering, Sciences, Architecture & Planning, Management sciences and the Humanities. In addition it also comprises of several centers of research and postgraduate specialization. Over the years, IIT Roorkee has proved its academic excellence as an institution of undergraduate and higher learning. Since its establishment, the University has played a vital role in providing the technical manpower, know-how and pursuit of research to the country.
It ranks among the top technological institutions in the world and has contributed to all sectors of technological development. It has also been considered a trendsetter in the area of education, research, and the field of science, technology, and engineering. Going down the mean Lane, I still remember this University as my favorite Institution. I studied there from year 1983 to year 1987 and achieved my Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. When I first got admission in University in July 1983. It was like a dream came true. It is the fountainhead of new idea & innovations in science & technology and continue to be a source of pride for all Indian.
