2ND science congress

SECOND UTTARAKHAND SCIENCE CONGRESS

It is a matter of pleasure for me to witness Second Science Congress held in Nainital on 15-17 November 2007. The idea behind organizing the Science Congress was to bring young researchers and scientists of various disciplines of Science & Technology to bring together on one forum and I think it succeeded in its mission.

The Science Congress was inaugurated by Honourable Minister for Science & Technology Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.

In his Key Note address Shri R.S. Tolia, Chief Information Commissioner stressed the need of sharing of research findings thus promoting learning & providing an opportunity to all researchers to showcase their talent. He hoped that science should be problem solving and application oriented. He also talked of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for knowledge creation and knowledge collection. He stressed the need of forming a new discipline called Montology or Montography, further studies of mountains.

Prof. S.P. Singh, Vice Chancellor of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (H.N.B.G.U) talked of historical relation between science & technology. He said that team work instead of personal efforts would enhance the growth of science. He also emphasized the need to increase the number of universities in India for quality higher education.
